DESCRIPTION:
APW - E. Howard & Co, Boston, Series X, 15J, dog grade, J-S (just under 12S), 14K gold OF original E.H.&Co. case by Roy, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, umbrella style hands, SW-SS, nickel damascene, s#500606. Gross weight of assembled watch 56.0 dwt (87.1 g). An attractive original example of this scarce watch, total production of the J sized Howard was 1500 made and original cased examples are becoming more challenging to find.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly on a full wind after a twist to start, some excess escapement noise in various positions, overhaul recommended, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered micro-fine scratches, balance cock with some pinpoint nicks, one plate screw is seated above the surrounding plate surface and has finish loss to its head; dial with edge flake at 1 taking out the 5 minute numeral, hls between 4:30 and 5, small perimeter hl at 10, some mild hand rub within seconds-register; fine hands, hour and minute with slight bends, minute with portions of oxide and finish loss; case shows light wear, slight soft ding to upper-right shoulder of rear; tight bow, crown shows medium wear with small ridge break; good glass crystal.
